How to Download and Install BMW DIS V57 for Free

BMW DIS V57 is a dealership-level diagnostic software that can help you troubleshoot and repair your BMW or Mini car. It can communicate with various modules and systems in your vehicle, such as engine, transmission, airbag, ABS, etc. It can also perform coding and programming functions.

If you want to download and install BMW DIS V57 for free, you will need a few things:

  • A laptop with USB running Windows XP or Windows 7.
  • A USB-OBD cable optimized for post-2005 BMWs. An older cable can be modified by removing the solder-bridge between OBD pins 7 and 8 - a guide is here.
  • The BMW DIS V57 download files. You can get them from here or here. The second link is more reliable, tested without any issue.
  • The BMW INPA / EDIABAS 6.4.3 download files. You can get them from here.
  • A VMware loader for BMW software. It allows you to keep VMware services off and automatically starts necessary programs as well as switch EDIABAS versions between 6.4.3 and 7.3.0. You can get it from here.

Once you have all the files, follow these steps to install BMW DIS V57:

  1. Unpack the 2 .rar files from the BMW DIS V57 download into a new folder.
  2. Unpack the .rar file from the BMW INPA / EDIABAS 6.4.3 download into another folder.
  3. Burn the files from both folders onto two DVDs or mount them as virtual drives using a program such as imageburn (download for free from www.imageburn.com).
  4. Install the VMware loader for BMW software by running the .exe file.
  5. Install the BMW INPA / EDIABAS 6.4.3 by running the BCABLES_REFERENCE_PACK.exe file from the first DVD or virtual drive.
  6. Install the BMW DIS V57 by running the setup.exe file from the second DVD or virtual drive.
  7. Configure the DIS V57 and VMWARE settings according to the instructions in this blog post or this forum thread.
  8. Connect your USB-OBD cable to your laptop and your car's OBD port.
  9. Start the DIS V57 software and select your car model and module.
  10. Enjoy diagnosing and repairing your BMW or Mini car!

BMW DIS V57 has some advantages over other diagnostic software, such as:

  • It supports older BMW models, such as E46, E39, E38, etc., that are not compatible with ISTA/D or ISTA/P.
  • It can perform coding and programming functions with SSS Progman, which is included in the download files.
  • It can run on a virtual machine using VMware, which means you don't have to install it on your laptop's hard drive and risk messing up your system.

However, BMW DIS V57 also has some drawbacks, such as:

  • It is outdated and no longer supported by BMW. It may not work properly with newer BMW models or modules.
  • It requires a lot of disk space and memory to run. You will need at least 4 GB of RAM and 20 GB of free disk space.
  • It is not user-friendly and requires some technical skills to configure and use. You will need to edit some files and settings, such as EDIABAS.INI, host, vmnet1, etc.
